Walk out of the front door to the Bettex chair eighty metres away, and you are straight into the Three Valleys ski area.
The chalet
No loading the car. No hunting for a parking space at half past eight. You walk out, put your skis on, and you are in the largest linked ski area in the world.
The Bettex chair is eighty metres from the front door on foot and reaches Les Menuires in about eight minutes, opening up the whole of Les 3 Vallées. At the end of the day you ski home to a south-facing sun terrace.
Chalet Gabriel has just been refurbished: two new bathrooms with underfloor heating, new furniture throughout, and a games room with a second 65" screen, a PS5, table tennis and darts. It sleeps eight across three floors and works best as two families, with the children in the attic bedroom.

Floor by floor

Sleeping

Two single beds, or made up as a double on request. Its own ensuite — walk-in shower, basin and underfloor heating — and doors to the lower terrace.

Four single beds under the eaves, with its own WC and basin. The staircase is steep and the beds are close together — best for children.

The same room as the games room. The sofa bed sleeps two and rolls aside on wheels to make room for the table tennis table.
The chalet is not designed for eight adults — six adults is the comfortable maximum. Bed linen is included all winter, December to April; in summer we can usually arrange it with seven days’ notice. Towels come only with the Wellness Package.

Optional extra

The lower terrace, with its sauna, Arctic Spas hot tub and outdoor hot shower, is not part of the nightly rate. It is added as an optional package, and the flat fee covers the electricity, a fresh water change for the tub and the laundry.
Message us any time after booking and at least seven days before you arrive, so the tub is heated and ready. The sauna is not suitable for under-16s, and under-16s must be accompanied by an adult in the hot tub. Without the package the lower terrace stays locked and alarmed.

Skiing
Six hundred kilometres of linked piste from a chairlift you can see from the terrace.
The Bettex chair opens at 08:45 and takes about eight minutes up to Les Menuires. From there the whole of Les 3 Vallées is in front of you — Val Thorens, Méribel, Courchevel and back again. In school-holiday weeks it is worth being at the lift by 08:30 to beat the queue, which builds briefly and then clears.
Coming home you can drop through the trees off the side of the piste and finish at the door — or it is an eighty-metre walk from the edge of the run at the bottom. Skis and poles live in the chalet's own locked cupboard beside the front door, and boots or helmets go on the warmers in the hall, which come on by themselves at 07:30 and again at 18:00. Two ski hire shops are in Le Bettaix itself.

Summer
Walking, wildlife and water — with the main lifts running through the summer season and none of the winter crowds.
The River Doron is eighty metres below the chalet. Above it the slopes turn to pasture and fireweed, the marmots come out across the hillside, and chamois and deer feed in the open. The high lakes and the ridges above the treeline are walking country from June to September.
The terrace, which is a sun-trap in February, is a different proposition again in July.

Cycling
High mountain tarmac from the door — the climbs start where you are standing.
Two of the great Tarentaise climbs begin at the chalet. The Col de Tougnète tops out at 2,437m, and the tarmac bike track to Val Thorens climbs past a lake to one of the highest tarmac finishes in the Alps. Both are quiet outside the ski season, and both are on your doorstep rather than a drive away.

Amenities
Good to know
Eight guests, best as two families with up to four children in the attic bedroom. Not designed for eight adults — six is the comfortable maximum.
We strongly recommend arriving by car. One parking space at the rear. The access road, Montée du Verney, is cleared and gritted but snow chains are sensible and are a legal requirement here in winter.
Self check-in from 16:00 by lockbox. Checkout by 10:00.
The nearest shops and restaurants are a short drive away in Saint-Martin and Les Menuires, so shop on the way in. BreadInBed delivers bread and croissants to the door at 07:30, and Pizza Del Capo brings a van to the village most Wednesdays.
Radiators are set to 20°C from 6–9am and 4–10pm, and off during the day on the assumption you are out on the mountain. The hot water tank holds around thirty minutes of showering, so stagger showers rather than queue.
Starlink wifi, usually very fast, subject to weather. The televisions are for streaming and the PS5 only, so bring your own logins. A selection of PS5 games is included; you will need your own PlayStation account.
Bed linen is included. Towels are not included in the nightly rate — they come only with the Wellness Package, so otherwise please bring your own.
Clearing snow from the terraces and outside areas is not included. There is a shovel in the ski locker and grit in the communal store opposite the chalet. The lower terrace has underfloor heating, which melts some but not all of it.
External CCTV covers the entrance and parking, both terraces and two valley views. Nothing indoors. Guests who take the Wellness Package are asked to cover the lower-terrace camera with the hood provided, as the hot tub is within its field of view.
No smoking or vaping anywhere. No pets. No candles or open flames — the chalet is timber. No events or parties. Quiet hours 23:00–07:00.

Where you will be
A small hamlet on the Bettex piste above Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, in the Belleville valley — the quiet side of Les 3 Vallées.

The circle shows the hamlet, not the chalet. We send the exact address, the door code and directions once your booking is confirmed.
We strongly recommend arriving by car — there is one parking space at the rear of the chalet. The access road, Montée du Verney, is cleared and gritted, but snow chains are sensible and are a legal requirement here in winter.
Saturdays in the ski season run slower than these times everywhere in the Tarentaise. Two ski hire shops are in Le Bettaix itself, and the nearest shops, restaurants, doctor and pharmacy are in Saint-Martin and Les Menuires.

The Bettex chair: 1,566m to 1,940m, open 08:45 to 16:30, and eighty metres from the door.

Two minutes from the door to the piste.

Skiing down to the lift after an overnight fall.

Fresh snow over the hamlet, view from the upper terrace.
The chalet sits right beside the Bettex chair, at the bottom of the Bettex piste — which is how you ski home.
